Tuari is a genus of flowering plant belonging to the Lecythidadeae family and comprising about 49 species. They are native to the tropical regions of southern America. It is a large tree that can reach up to 50 meters in height. It has a straight trunk and a longitudinally fissured bark. It is a light yellow-brown wood, not very resistant to fungal attack. It is normally used in civil and naval construction, flooring, musical instruments, household items and carpentry.
